Nitromethane Powered Dixie Twister

The restored Dixie Twister is fueled by nitromethane.  This chemical compound is part of a combination found in CH3NO2, which  is in the family of explosive compounds.   This post continues our look at the fuel that ignites this funny car.

As the car speeds down the racetrack, fuel is injected into the engine, the flames shoot out of the exhaust of the nitromethane propelled funny car.  The amount of fuel in the Dixie Twister is always checked between runs.  The video below is an example of this drag racing spectacle. (Things heat up around the 1:04 mark.)
